CONDUCTOR


Jonathan Trout studied violin at the Royal Manchester College of Music (now the RNCM) followed by a music degree at the University of York. As a violinist he gained valuable experience in the Ulster, Sadlers Wells and Royal Ballet orchestras. At York Jonathan began conducting and organized and promoted many concerts.

After moving to Derbyshire he was appointed Principal Conductor of the Derby Concert Orchestra.

In 1996 Jonathan attended the International Conductors' Institute in Bulgaria, working with the Varna State Philharmonic.

Appearances as conductor have included the Sinfonia Bucharest in the Athenaeum in Bucharest, the London Schubert Players and the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra's Ensemble Ten-Ten.

Jonathan conducts a wide repertoire and is a champion of 20th Century and new music. He has a particular interest in Stravinsky and has given performances of The Rite of Spring, Firebird and Petrouchka in the Derbyshire area. Other contemporary works include Judith Weirs Natural History and the Philip Glass Violin Concerto. In 2002 Jonathan conducted the Lancashire Chamber Orchestra in the premiere of the Bassoon Concerto by David Beck with the Hallé principal Graham Savage.

In May 2003 he conducted the London Soloists Chamber Orchestra in St John's, Smith Square.

In 2007 Jonathan worked for the first time with Essex Chamber Orchestra.

Jonathan regularly works at the Benslow Music Trust in Hitchin, coaching groups, string quartets and conducting the string orchestra.

2008 and 2009 include working with the Middlewich Concert Orchetra and every year he conducts at the Charterhouse Summer School of Music.
