MEMBERSHIP
Orchestra
members are an eclectic group of individuals, joining together for their
own entertainment as well as to perform live music in the Derbyshire
area.
Music is
chosen for each orchestral season following suggestions by our members,
so a broad range of classical tastes is offered.
The orchestra
rehearses on Monday evenings during school term from 7.15 - 9.45pm at
St.Benedicts Catholic School, Duffield Road, Darley Abbey, Derby DE22
1JD.
Rehearsals
are friendly, businesslike and fun, something to look forward to on
a weekly basis. We are often looking for more players, Cellists and
Double Bass players at a particular premium at the moment. We can normally
accommodate more violins and violas at a suggested standard of around
Grade 7-8. However, we are happy to consider those with experience that
may off-set this, so do come along and see if you would like to join.
Brass, percussion and wind players may also like to check for vacancies,
where there are occasional spaces to be filled. There are no auditions
involved and you simply sit with and discuss your situation with the
section leader in order to come to the best arrangement for yourself
and the orchestra.
In order
to help finance five concerts per season there is a subscription charge.
This has recently been reduced to £50
per year, £40 concession and £20 for students. The aim is
to keep subscriptions as low as possible whilst recognising that these
charges are now exceptional value for money.
Perhaps
you have skills in management, publicity or fund raising or maybe like
to get 'hands-on' during performance preparation - when there are lots
of practical tasks requiring attention. You may like to join the committee
where your particular skills might become useful and give personal satisfaction
beyond that of just playing.
Give Bryan
Clarke (Orchestra President) or Jonathan Trout (Conductor) a call to
start the process of joining us.
(N.B. both are very friendly and will be happy to hear from you - see
'CONTACT' page)
